Our Mission

About me

My name is Scarlett, and I am the founder of Kids for Parkinson’s™, a youth‑led organization dedicated to educating children about Parkinson’s disease and supporting families affected by it. I am a student, researcher, and community advocate from Paris, Kentucky, and much of my work is inspired by the close bond I shared with my grandmother. Through education, service projects, and music outreach, I strive to help young people understand Parkinson’s in a way that is clear, compassionate, and empowering. My goal is to show that kids can make a meaningful difference — one act of kindness, one conversation, and one community at a time.

Our Story

In the summer of 2021, my grandmother was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease. I was only eleven, and when my mother told me, I remember feeling a mix of fear, confusion, and worry. I didn’t know what Parkinson’s was, and every explanation I tried to read felt too complicated for a sixth‑grader. I just wanted to understand what my grandmother was going through.

During middle school, I was a virtual student — and that meant I spent almost every day with her. I helped take care of her, kept her company, and watched the small ways Parkinson’s changed her life. Those moments brought us even closer. She wasn’t just my grandmother; she was someone I loved deeply and someone I wanted to protect. Being by her side made me realize how important it is for kids to understand Parkinson’s, especially when someone they love is living with it.

By the summer of 2024, right before my freshman year of high school, I knew I wanted to do something bigger. That’s when I founded Kids for Parkinson’s ® — a youth‑led organization dedicated to helping children learn about Parkinson’s disease in a way that’s clear, simple, and supportive. I wanted kids to have the resources I never had, so they could understand what their loved ones were facing and feel confident in how to help.

Today, Kids for Parkinson’s ® has grown into something I’m incredibly proud of. We create educational materials for kids, make handmade flowers for senior residents in honor of Parkinson's patients, perform music in assisted living homes, raise awareness in our community, and show families that they’re not alone. Every project, every act of kindness, every moment of connection reminds me why I started this journey.
